I didn\u2019t see where it was going. They pushed me to find my own lane.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2122\" data-end=\"2156\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Two Decisions He Regrets<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2158\" data-end=\"2267\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Despite his towering success, Washington admits there are two career choices that still linger in his mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2269\" data-end=\"2539\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The first was turning down <em data-start=\"2296\" data-end=\"2301\">Ray<\/em> (2004), the acclaimed biopic about musician Ray Charles. \u201cThat was a mistake,\u201d he said candidly. \u201cIt was offered to me, and I didn\u2019t think I could do it justice. Then I saw Jamie \u2014 he was extraordinary. That was his destiny, not mine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2541\" data-end=\"2896\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The second regret was more personal \u2014 a directing opportunity he passed on early in his career. \u201cThere was a project about civil rights I wanted to do years ago,\u201d Washington shared. \u201cBut I was scared. I didn\u2019t trust myself as a filmmaker yet. I wish I\u2019d taken that leap sooner. If I\u2019d taken <em data-start=\"3167\" data-end=\"3174\">Se7en<\/em>, maybe I\u2019d have missed <em data-start=\"3198\" data-end=\"3212\">Training Day<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3218\" data-end=\"3385\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em data-start=\"3218\" data-end=\"3232\">Training Day<\/em> (2001) would go on to earn Washington his second Oscar \u2014 this time for Best Actor \u2014 cementing his status as one of the most respected figures in film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3387\" data-end=\"3613\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">His outlook, he says, comes from years of faith and patience. \u201cYou can\u2019t rush what\u2019s meant for you,\u201d Washington reflected. \u201cI\u2019ve learned that every rejection carries a blessing \u2014 you just have to live long enough to see it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3615\" data-end=\"3651\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A Legacy of Wisdom and Purpose<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3653\" data-end=\"3854\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Now in his late sixties, Denzel Washington views his career not as a collection of missed chances, but as a story of timing, trust, and transformation.
