If most people were suddenly struck down by a mystery illness while vacationing on a remote island, their first instinct would be to call a doctor or hotel staff. For Rebecca Ferguson<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, however, the solution was far more Hollywood: she picked up the phone and called Tom Cruise<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u2014to ask if he could get her a helicopter.<\/span><\/p>\n

The candid and humorous revelation came during a new interview with The Independent<\/em>, as Ferguson promoted her upcoming thriller Mercy<\/em>. Recounting the incident, the actress explained that she became seriously unwell while staying in the Maldives<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, suffering from what she initially believed might be something far more alarming than it turned out to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI called him once when I was in the Maldives when I had a really bad stomach,\u201d Ferguson said. \u201cI was like, \u2018Can I get a helicopter?\u2019 It was quite a funny thing.\u201d At the time, she feared she had contracted a parasite. \u201cI thought it was a big worm,\u201d she added, before laughing off the overshare.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was Ferguson\u2019s husband, Rory St Clair Gainer, who reportedly made the now-infamous suggestion. \u201c\u2018Tom can get a helicopter,\u2019\u201d he told her\u2014apparently without irony. As it turned out, Ferguson was suffering from gastroenteritis rather than anything more sinister, but the episode underscored just how close she remains with Cruise after years of collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ferguson first joined the Mission: Impossible<\/span><\/span><\/strong> universe in Mission: Impossible \u2013 Rogue Nation<\/span><\/span><\/em>, portraying MI6 agent Ilsa Faust. She went on to reprise the role in Mission: Impossible \u2013 Fallout<\/span><\/span><\/em> and Mission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning<\/span><\/span><\/em>, becoming one of the franchise\u2019s most popular modern additions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond the spy series, Ferguson has built a formidable r\u00e9sum\u00e9, starring in Dune<\/span><\/span><\/em> and Dune: Part Two<\/span><\/span><\/em>, as well as Life<\/em>, Doctor Sleep<\/em>, and Netflix\u2019s political thriller A House of Dynamite<\/em>. Since 2023, she has also led the Apple TV+ series Silo<\/span><\/span><\/em>, set in a dystopian underground society sealed off from the outside world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ferguson isn\u2019t the only Mission: Impossible<\/em> alum to publicly praise Cruise. In 2023, Hannah Waddingham<\/span><\/span><\/strong> defended him passionately on James Martin\u2019s Saturday Morning<\/em>, describing Cruise as \u201cone of the loveliest and most inspiring human beings\u201d she had ever met after filming aboard the USS George H. W. Bush.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Cruise remains one of Hollywood\u2019s most bankable stars, his off-screen persona has long attracted intense scrutiny, from his infamous 2005 sofa-jumping moment on The Oprah Winfrey Show<\/span><\/span><\/em> to ongoing debate surrounding his ties to the Church of Scientology. Yet stories like Ferguson\u2019s suggest that, behind the spectacle, Cruise is also a fiercely loyal friend\u2014one who might just be able to arrange a helicopter when you need it most.<\/span><\/p>\n
