The exchange took place during questioning by Moody, who asked OB-GYN Dr. Nisha Verma<\/span><\/span><\/strong> whether men could become pregnant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Verma responded cautiously, saying she was unsure where the questioning was headed and explaining that she treats patients with a range of identities. According to a transcript of the hearing, Hawley then interjected.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the goal is, is the truth,\u201d Hawley said. \u201cCan men get pregnant?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that he was seeking to establish what he described as a biological reality, pressing Verma for a direct answer and characterizing the question as a simple yes-or-no matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Verma pushed back, arguing that framing the issue in binary terms was political in nature. She said she preferred to avoid further polarization and expressed a desire for a broader discussion rather than answering the question directly.<\/span><\/p>\n
