In a rare and revealing 1973 interview on The Dick Cavett Show<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, Hepburn spoke candidly about how she came to acting\u2014less as a calling blessed by family, and more as a stubborn choice forged through resistance. Born in 1907 in Hartford, Connecticut, she grew up in a fiercely progressive household. Her father, Thomas Norval Hepburn<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, was a pioneering urologist and public-health advocate.
