Before Rocky<\/em> turned Sylvester Stallone into a Hollywood icon, he was an actor the industry repeatedly rejected. For years, he heard the same two words: \u201cNot interested.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t broke,\u201d Stallone recalls. \u201cI was broken. There\u2019s a difference.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Long before he became the underdog hero on screen, Stallone lived the struggle himself \u2014 sleeping in a New York bus station, selling his dog for $40 just to buy food, and enduring endless auditions. \u201cThey said my face was wrong, my voice was weird, and my name sounded fake,\u201d he remembers. \u201cOne casting director actually laughed when I said I wanted to be a leading man.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

By his own count, Stallone faced more than 1,500 rejections<\/strong> before someone finally gave him a chance. \u201cAfter a while, you start thinking maybe the world\u2019s right about you,\u201d he admits.<\/span><\/p>\n

The turning point came after he watched Muhammad Ali fight Chuck Wepner \u2014 a match that inspired him to write Rocky<\/em> in just three days. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t about boxing,\u201d he explains. \u201cIt was about a man who refused to stop swinging, even when everyone told him to stay down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When pitching the script, studios loved it \u2014 until Stallone insisted on playing the lead. \u201cThey offered me $360,000 for the rights,\u201d he says. \u201cBut I said no. If Rocky was going to win, I had to be the one in the ring.\u201d Eventually, United Artists agreed, giving him a shoestring budget and a shot at his dream. Rocky<\/em> went on to win three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, catapulting Stallone into global fame.<\/span><\/p>\n

Decades later, Stallone reflects on the journey:<\/span><\/p>\n
