In the world of country music, Blake Shelton is known for his chart-topping hits and his charismatic seat on “The Voice.” However, in November 2015, the residents of Ardmore, Oklahoma, saw a different side of the star\u2014one that involved a heavy-duty tractor, a length of rope, and a life-risking rescue mission during a dangerous environmental crisis. The ordeal began when a group of four young men\u2014Bryar Blanton, Lenyell Blanton, Josh Turner, and Adrian Poplin\u2014found themselves in a life-threatening situation. While checking the rising waters of the Washita River following intense flash flooding, their vehicle slid off the road and became submerged in a massive, sinking mud hole.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the water levels rose, the group realized they were trapped in a rapidly deteriorating situation. Bryar Blanton and Adrian Poplin eventually managed to wade through the muck to seek assistance. “I thought we were dead until a massive truck appeared,” Blanton later recounted. Out of the gray Oklahoma rain, a truck pulled up, and a familiar face looked out: it was Blake Shelton, accompanied by his dog, Betty. Shelton didn’t just stop to call for professional emergency services; he immediately became the help the group needed. He first attempted to pull the vehicle out with his pickup truck, but the suction of the Oklahoma mud proved too strong for the truck alone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Refusing to abandon the group, Shelton told the boys he would return in 15 minutes. He drove to his nearby ranch and returned with a John Deere tractor. With the power of the heavy machinery and a tow rope, Shelton successfully hauled the group and their vehicle to safety. Despite the danger of the slick riverbank and the unpredictable floodwaters, the “God’s Country” singer stayed until every one of the strangers was on solid ground. Interestingly, this wasn’t Shelton’s only rescue that year. Just months earlier, in June, he had towed a man named Roho Hartman out of waist-deep water following Tropical Storm Bill, even giving the man a ride home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the November rescue, Bryar Blanton posted a photo with the star to express his gratitude. In true Blake Shelton fashion, the singer responded with his signature humor, tweeting, “No problem.. Now you boys stay outta jail!!! Ha!!!” Shelton later downplayed his heroics in interviews, modestly claiming he was just “saving them from their parents” because he knew how much trouble they would be in for getting the truck stuck.
