Speaking on Alex Clark&#8217;s <i>Culture Apothecary<\/i> podcast, McCarthy revealed she immediately started Bible study following the shocking event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;With every horrible thing, if you find the good, it can help you move forward,&#8221; McCarthy explained. She cited a &#8220;mass awakening&#8221; following Kirk&#8217;s death, noting &#8220;how many people came closer to God, even including myself.\u201d When pressed, McCarthy elaborated that she was raised Catholic and has always had a &#8220;very deep relationship with God.&#8221; However, she added, &#8220;I\u2019ve always been a follower of Christ, but when he [Kirk] passed, I completely surrendered.&#8221; She stressed her newfound devotion, stating, &#8220;I am so devoted. I mean, I started Bible study immediately.\u201d The actress then urged listeners to download the Christian app Duomo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The <i>Dirty Love<\/i> star asserted that Kirk&#8217;s sacrifice was intentional and profound. &#8220;I feel like Charlie knew exactly what he was doing,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;And I know now that he knew the sacrifice he was making.&#8221; She described his memorial as a powerful experience, asking, &#8220;couldn\u2019t you feel it around the country? Around the world? I felt it, the mass awakening.\u201d McCarthy offered prayers for those who did not feel the impact, saying, &#8220;They\u2019re just, they\u2019re not there yet.&#8221; She then sent a message to the late activist. \u201cI just want Charlie to know that \u2014 and I know he knows this, because he can see us all \u2014 he changed the world. He saved the world. I mean, imagine having that as your legacy. You shifted, but you brought all those people closer to Christ. What a what a gift.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The conversation turned deeply emotional when Clark referenced a post McCarthy made about listening to worship music after Kirk was murdered. &#8220;Crying,&#8221; McCarthy interjected, before starting to sob. Through tears, the <i>Scream 3<\/i> actress said, \u201cIt was so sad, because the work he was doing was so good.\u201d She lamented what she called the &#8220;two realities&#8221; regarding public perception of Kirk. &#8220;There\u2019s a certain group of people in the world that were fed only one narrative of Charlie,&#8221; she claimed, arguing they &#8220;didn\u2019t see the other side.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">McCarthy continued to express immense respect for Kirk&#8217;s efforts. &#8220;I understood his journey so much, in terms of putting yourself on the line,&#8221; she said. She drew a parallel to her own career, noting, &#8220;I personally understood what it was like to get threats. I\u2019ve been threatened my whole career, since I\u2019ve come out.\u201d She acknowledged &#8220;the courage it takes to stand in front of people, to tell your truth, to go on shows, to get beat up, to get trolled.&#8221; Recalling the shooting, the <i>One on One<\/i> actress struggled to speak, taking a moment while covering her face. \u201cI was so broken \u2014 when he was shot I prayed, and prayed, and prayed,&#8221; she tearfully confessed. She described making desperate calls to doctors, saying, \u201cTell me that this wound is something that could be healed,\u201d though admitting, &#8220;I kind of knew it wasn\u2019t.\u201d She concluded, \u201cIt was such a dark day.
