Jeddah,<\/span> Saudi Arabia \u2014 Entertainment icon Queen Latifah recently sat down with Deadline\u2019s studio at the Red Sea International Film Festival,<\/span> offering insights into a major upcoming project about her life and the potential return of her beloved character,<\/span> Robyn McCall.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Latifah’s company,<\/span> Flavor Unit Entertainment,<\/span> is partnering with Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment to produce the biopic.<\/span> This film is set to be the first in a slate of projects focusing on hip-hop\u2019s most iconic stars.<\/span> “We\u2019ve partnered up to work with Westbrook [Studios] and Jesse Collins Entertainment\u2026we figured we would create these,<\/span>” Latifah revealed.<\/span> “I\u2019m going to be one of the first to do it.<\/span> Will [Smith] is going to do his as well,<\/span> and he\u2019s also integral in my story.<\/span>“<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The biggest question surrounding the film remains casting.<\/span> Latifah acknowledged the complexity of the role,<\/span> given her decades-spanning career:<\/span> “This is going to be big casting.<\/span> I\u2019ve been doing this since I was 17-years-old,<\/span> but there was the lead up to it,<\/span> so someone has to be able to play those different parts of it.<\/span>” She shared that navigating early stardom was a challenge,<\/span> feeling disconnected from her public persona.<\/span> “I was like,<\/span> there\u2019s no way I can live up to this,<\/span> this \u2018Queen Latifah\u2019,<\/span> she\u2019s a business,<\/span> she\u2019s much bigger than who I am.<\/span> I had to come to grips with that.<\/span>” The biopic is currently in the writing phase,<\/span> and she stated,<\/span> “We\u2019re writing\u2026it\u2019s gonna take a minute.<\/span>“<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to her film work,<\/span> the star addressed the end of the CBS series The Equalizer<\/b>, which she both starred in and executive produced for five seasons. The show recently concluded its run.<\/span><\/p>\n

Latifah, who played the titular vigilante Robyn McCall, did not dismiss the possibility of seeing the character again. \u201cWhen it comes to The Equalizer<\/b> universe, anything is possible,\u201d she remarked. She noted the deep personal connection she forged with the role: \u201cI put a lot of who I am into Robyn McCall, so it\u2019s definitely possible to see more iterations of who she is, different versions, maybe.\u201d She confirmed she is currently “decompressing” after the series finale.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
