The singer and talk show host, 43, took to Instagram on Sunday, November 30, to post a rare photo of her daughter, River Rose, 11, and son, Remington “Remy” Alexander, 9, enjoying a classic winter activity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Family Fun at Rockefeller Center<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

“Ice skating at 30 Rock with the family \u2705,” the proud mother captioned the photo, which captured their visit to The Rink at Rockefeller Center. The snap showed River and Remington bundled up in warm jackets and beanies, beaming at the camera. Clarkson and an unidentified friend or relative stood behind the children. Remy added a playful touch by waving to the camera.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Mother’s Wisdom and Heartbreak<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Clarkson shares her children with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who tragically passed away from cancer at age 48 in August. The singer has been navigating the challenging emotional landscape for her family following the loss. A source told PEOPLE after Blackstock’s death that Clarkson was “heartbroken” for her children. “Kelly and Brandon had their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, he was the father of her children and she is absolutely heartbroken for them,” the source explained. “Her kids are her entire world, and she’s staying strong for their sake.” Another source revealed that Clarkson was “devastated” for River and Remy as Blackstock had privately battled cancer for three years. “When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” the source added. This focus on strong, open parenting aligns with a piece of advice the “Underneath The Tree” singer shared with her daughter on an October episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/i>. “I look at my daughter constantly and I’m just like, ‘Look, I’m trying my best,’ ” Clarkson said on air. “I know you’re gonna end up in therapy one day. I don’t know what for, but I’m trying my best to limit it.
