For 18-year-old Kai Trump, the eldest grandchild of President Donald Trump, pursuing a professional golf career under the national spotlight has invited a fair share of critics and naysayers. The future University of Miami golfer recently offered a candid look into how she handles negative social media comments while keeping her focus sharply on her athletic and academic goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I just stay away from it,” Kai told her aunt, Lara Trump, during an interview on “My View with Lara Trump.” She explained that the criticism “doesn’t really affect me because, I don’t know, I know who I am. It doesn’t really matter, to be honest.” Trump emphasized her self-assurance, noting, “People say whatever they want to say at the end of the day. I know what\u2019s true and I know the type of person I am. It doesn\u2019t really matter.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Nerves and Resilience at LPGA Debut<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Kai made her LPGA Tour debut at The Annika at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. Although the outcome wasn’t exactly what she planned, she described the experience as invaluable. The first day brought intense nerves. “The first day, I\u2019ve never been more nervous in my entire life. That was like the [Republican National Convention] times 30,” she told her aunt. Despite the pressure, she felt she “played well the first day” considering the nerves.<\/span><\/p>\n

The high school senior shot an 83 in the first round, placing her last among 108 players. However, she demonstrated resilience by bouncing back significantly on the second day with a five-over 75. While the score was not enough to make the cut for the weekend, she was grateful for the opportunity. “Then, the second day, I kinda went out there and was like, \u2018OK, no more nerves.\u2019 The nerves weren\u2019t as bad and I did really well. So, I mean, it was a great experience. Thankful for the opportunity.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Choosing the Miami Hurricanes<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The experience serves as a strong foundation as Kai prepares to join the Miami Hurricanes golf team next year. When discussing her choice of university, she highlighted the importance of location and coaching. “Really just came down to the coaches. I love the program, and I also didn\u2019t want to be so far away from home because I love coming back home,” she shared. “I love Florida. So, it really just came down to the coaches. The school is great for academics and the team is awesome.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Praise From LIV Golf Star DeChambeau<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Despite her failure to make the cut, Kai’s performance earned praise from an unexpected corner: LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau. Speaking to Fox News Digital, DeChambeau called her second-round 75 “actually really impressive.” He added, “We didn\u2019t know how she was going to do, she handled herself very well, and what a great opportunity.” He also mentioned a conversation with tournament host Annika Sorenstam, noting, “There’s plenty of others that have gotten invites that didn’t do well, but it was a great experience for them. And I think it’s going to be a great experience for her.”<\/span><\/p>\n

A Four-Year Plan and Rounds with Grandpa<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The young golfer remains determined and focused on a clear, long-term plan. “I\u2019m going to go to college for four years at the University of Miami, play golf for them there,” she outlined. “Then, if I get anymore sponsor invites, I\u2019ll go play an LPGA Tour event here and there if I can those invites. Then, after college, go pro \u2014 that\u2019s the plan.
