Cillian Murphy’s audition for the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s 2005 reboot <\/span>Batman Begins<\/span><\/b> did not land him the superhero role, but it launched one of modern cinema’s most successful collaborations. Murphy, then a relatively unknown Irish actor, flew to Hollywood to try out for Bruce Wayne\/Batman. He even wore the Batsuit previously used by Val Kilmer. He later recalled that the performance was so exciting that when he proposed Murphy for the Scarecrow role, there was “no dissent.” Murphy’s ability to convey menace with his uniquely intense, haunting blue eyes\u2014which would have been obscured by the Batman cowl\u2014proved too compelling to ignore.<\/span><\/p>\n

This initial creative spark led to a collaboration spanning two decades and six films. Murphy is featured in every entry of <\/span>The Dark Knight<\/span><\/b> trilogy, as well as Nolan’s <\/span>Inception<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>Dunkirk<\/span><\/b> . The partnership reached its zenith with the 2023 biopic <\/span>Oppenheimer<\/span><\/b> , where Murphy starred as physicist J.
