This monumental achievement is thanks to new equipment and innovative tests, proving that the notoriously noisy Imax format can now capture intimate dialogue alongside its signature large-scale spectacle.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr data-path-to-node=\"2\" \/>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>The Bowie Test: Proving Intimacy on the World&#8217;s Largest Format<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The path to an all-Imax feature was paved by a compelling test conducted by cinematographer <b>Hoyte van Hoytema<\/b>, who won an Oscar for his work on Nolan\u2019s <i>Oppenheimer<\/i>. What that opens up are intimate moments of performance on the world\u2019s most beautiful format.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Nolan has been steadily increasing his use of Imax since <b>2008\u2019s <i>The Dark Knight<\/i><\/b>, which was the first Hollywood movie to integrate the format for select action scenes. His 2023 masterpiece, <i>Oppenheimer<\/i>, was notable for being the first film to use <b>Imax black-and-white 65mm film<\/b>\u2014a collaboration with Kodak that required van Hoytema and his team to re-engineer cameras and create new film stock, as black and white film in that format did not previously exist.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr data-path-to-node=\"12\" \/>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\">\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>An Epic Scale and Astronomical Film Budget<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Nolan&#8217;s commitment to the format is reflected in the production&#8217;s massive footprint. The director previously told <i>Empire<\/i> that he <b>\u201cshot over 2 million feet of film\u201d<\/b> during the 91-day principal photography earlier this year.
