“He Laughed So Hard”: Chris Hemsworth Made Tom Hiddleston Reshoot a Scene 15 Times After One Line Change

In the world of superhero blockbusters, few on-screen partnerships have captured audiences’ hearts quite like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston — the larger-than-life duo behind Thor and Loki. Their sibling rivalry has defined much of the Thor franchise, but according to those who’ve worked with them, it’s their off-screen friendship — full of pranks, laughter, and improvisation — that brings their chemistry to life.

Recently, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi revealed one such moment that perfectly sums up their dynamic: a scene that had to be reshot 15 times because Hemsworth couldn’t stop laughing — all thanks to one unscripted line from Hiddleston.

The Day Loki Outsmarted Thor

The now-legendary moment took place during the filming of the fan-favorite “Get Help” sequence, where Thor convinces Loki to feign injury so he can hurl him at a group of unsuspecting enemies. It’s one of Ragnarok’s most memorable comedic beats — but as it turns out, the laughter didn’t stop when the cameras rolled.

According to Waititi, Hiddleston approached him just before filming with a mischievous grin and said, “Let’s try something new. I’ll surprise him.” The director, always game for improvisation, told him to go for it.

When the cameras started rolling, instead of delivering the scripted line, Hiddleston looked Hemsworth directly in the eye and said, with mock seriousness:

“You’re enjoying this far too much, you oafish golden retriever.”

That was all it took. Hemsworth immediately broke into uncontrollable laughter.

“Chris just lost it — full-on belly laughter,” Waititi recalled. “We had to cut, reset, and start over again. He kept trying to get through his line, but every time Tom said that phrase, he cracked up. It went on for fifteen takes.”

A Friendship That Fuels the Fun

Hiddleston later confirmed the story during a fan Q&A, joking, “It’s rare that Loki gets to make Thor lose his godlike composure. That day, I think Loki finally won.”

Hemsworth, for his part, had no problem admitting defeat. “Tom’s timing was evil,” he said with a laugh. “He waited for the perfect moment — totally caught me off guard. I was gone. Completely unprofessional, but worth it.”

Although Waititi eventually used the original scripted version in the final cut, the blooper reel — featuring Hemsworth doubled over laughing while Hiddleston stoically stays in character — became an instant favorite on set and among the crew.

Laughter Behind the Lightning

For fans, the story is yet another glimpse into the real bond between the two actors, whose decade-long collaboration has helped define the heart of Marvel’s Thor films. Their genuine friendship off camera — equal parts teasing and admiration — translates seamlessly into their performances as brothers at odds yet bound by loyalty.

As Hemsworth later summed it up:

“Tom’s my brother on and off screen. If he can make me laugh that hard, I’ll reshoot all day.”

It’s a story that proves what fans have always suspected — that behind the thunder, trickery, and heroics, the magic of Thor and Loki lies in something simple: two friends who still can’t stop laughing together.
