“Everything Changed” — Tom Holland Opens Up About His Extreme Transformation and the Toll of a 7-Day-a-Week Routine

Tom Holland has built his career on discipline, agility, and charm — qualities that made him one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars and the face of Spider-Man. But in a recent interview, the 28-year-old actor revealed that a dramatic new role forced him to completely rewire his life, both physically and mentally.

The actor shared that he lost 7 kilograms in just three weeks after switching to an intense diet and abandoning his usual seven-day workout routine. “Everything changed,” Holland admitted. “I’m used to training hard for roles like Spider-Man — staying strong, flexible, ready for stunts. But this was something else entirely. I had to reprogram my whole lifestyle for it.”

A Role That Demanded Vulnerability

Unlike his heroic turns in Spider-Man or Uncharted, Holland’s new character required a look — and mindset — far removed from that of a confident superhero. “I couldn’t look like the guy who saves the day,” he explained. “This character wasn’t strong or secure — he was broken. So I had to strip everything down, physically and emotionally.”

To achieve the transformation, Holland worked with a team of nutritionists and trainers who designed a strict, low-calorie plan. “I was eating almost the same thing every day,” he recalled. “Egg whites, grilled chicken, steamed vegetables — and just enough to function.”

The goal was not to build strength, but to lose it — a concept that felt unnatural for the actor. “I used to train every single day, no breaks. Seven days a week, nonstop,” he said. “This time, the challenge was the opposite. I had to stop pushing my body and start letting go.”

The Physical and Mental Toll

The drastic change didn’t come without consequences. Holland admitted that the process tested his limits. “There were days I woke up dizzy,” he said. “Your body’s running on empty, and your mind starts playing tricks on you. It’s tough — and not something I’d recommend unless it’s truly necessary for the role.”

Despite the hardships, Holland says the experience reshaped his understanding of discipline and well-being. “As actors, we push ourselves for authenticity,” he said. “But this time, I learned that you can’t give your best if you’re completely drained. You have to protect your energy.”

Rethinking What It Means to Work Hard

Having trained intensely for roles in Uncharted and Cherry, Holland thought he understood what hard work looked like. But this project changed his perspective. “I used to think rest was weakness,” he reflected. “Now I see it’s part of the job. You can’t sustain seven days a week forever — your body will eventually tell you to slow down.”

Once filming ended, Holland gradually returned to his regular diet and workout routine, focusing on recovery and long-term health. “I put the weight back on the right way,” he said. “But more importantly, I got my energy and joy back. You realize how deeply food, rest, and routine affect your mind.”

Finding Balance Beyond the Screen

Now, Holland says the experience was transformative — not just professionally, but personally. “That whole process changed everything for me,” he said. “Not just how I train, but how I live. I still love the work. I still give it my all. But I’ve learned how to take care of myself while doing it.”

In an industry that celebrates relentless dedication, Holland’s honesty stands out — a reminder that even superheroes need balance.
