Jennifer Lopez Says She Doesn’t Have Many Famous Friends: “They See Me as Standoffish, But I’m Not”

Jennifer Lopez has spent decades in the spotlight — a global superstar known for her music, acting, and business ventures. Yet behind the glamour and red-carpet appearances, Lopez says her inner circle is surprisingly small.

In a candid new interview with Howard Stern on The Howard Stern Show (Sirius XM, Oct. 15), the Kiss of the Spider Woman star revealed that despite her immense fame, she doesn’t have many — or any — celebrity friends.

“I don’t have a lot — any famous friends, really,” Lopez admitted.

A Life of Work and Privacy

When Stern expressed surprise — asking how someone with such a “fabulous life” could have so few famous friends — Lopez explained that her lifestyle is far more low-key than people imagine.

“No, not really,” she said when asked if she attends Hollywood parties. “I go out when I have to. I’m more work, do my thing, rush home, get cozy… I don’t know why. I just stay in my — I have a very small circle.”

The 56-year-old artist described herself as someone who prefers quiet over constant socializing. “I think I’m shy and I don’t like bothering people,” she added. “So I don’t connect with everybody, and I think they see me as standoffish.”

Grounded by Family

While she may not spend her evenings mingling with other celebrities, Lopez said she has a strong foundation of support — starting with her family. Her sisters, Lynda and Leslie Ann Lopez, remain her closest confidantes.

“Among my best friends are my sisters,” she said, noting that those relationships have always kept her grounded amid her demanding career.

Still, Lopez was quick to clarify that she does know other stars — just not on a deeply personal level. She mentioned Jane Fonda, her Monster-in-Law co-star from 2005, as one of the famous people she’s friendly with.

Finding Comfort in Simplicity

Lopez’s comments offer a rare glimpse into the personal life of one of entertainment’s most high-profile figures. Known for her tireless work ethic and multiple careers — singer, actor, dancer, and producer — Lopez said she values peace and normalcy when the cameras stop rolling.

“I like the occasional drink,” she told Stern, laughing. “But never more than one.”

Her priorities, she explained, are simple: work hard, go home, and enjoy a sense of calm away from the public eye.

A Lighthearted Moment

The interview wasn’t all introspection — Lopez also shared a few laughs with Stern. When the host suggested she might add him to her list of famous friends, she playfully replied, “You could be my famous friend.”

Stern jokingly declined: “No, you don’t want me there. Trust me. I’d ruin it.”

What’s Next for Lopez

Lopez is currently starring in and producing Kiss of the Spider Woman, alongside Tonatiuh and Diego Luna, now in theaters. Her upcoming projects include the romantic comedy Office Romance with Brett Goldstein, and two films — The Last Mrs. Parrish and The Godmother.

Despite her busy schedule, Lopez seems content with her quiet, tight-knit world. As she put it, she’s not avoiding people — just embracing the calm that comes with knowing who truly matters.

“I’m not standoffish,” Lopez said. “I just like my small circle. It’s where I feel most myself.”
