Brad Pitt Says Sobriety Gave Him His Life Back: “I’m Not the Same Man I Was Ten Years Ago”

Brad Pitt has spent decades as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures — a symbol of charisma and talent whose career has ranged from Fight Club to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But at 61, the actor says his most meaningful transformation didn’t happen on screen — it happened within.

“I’m not the same man I was ten years ago,” Pitt said. “Sobriety gave me my life back — it gave me clarity, peace, and a sense of purpose I hadn’t felt in a long time.”

A Turning Point After Personal Struggles

Pitt has spoken openly about his battle with alcohol, especially in the aftermath of his 2016 divorce from Angelina Jolie. That period, he says, forced him to confront truths he had long avoided.

“I had to face myself — all the things I’d been running from, numbing, avoiding,” he reflected. “That’s the hardest part of growing up, no matter how old you are. You stop pretending you’re fine and start doing the work.”

Choosing Healing Over Image

The actor credits sobriety not just for improving his health, but for fundamentally reshaping how he sees life.

“I’ve found a different kind of freedom,” he shared. “Life feels bigger now, but also simpler. You start noticing the small things again — the morning light, a good laugh with a friend, a quiet day at home.”

A New Creative Chapter

Pitt continues to act, but much of his energy now goes into producing through Plan B Entertainment, the company behind acclaimed films such as Moonlight, 12 Years a Slave, and The Big Short.

“I love acting, but producing has given me another way to tell stories,” he said. “It’s not about being seen anymore. It’s about creating something meaningful.”

Even his performances have taken on new depth. His Oscar-winning portrayal of Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood carried a quiet, introspective weight.

“Cliff was a guy who’d seen a lot, who carried it all with a kind of grace,” Pitt said. “I related to that. I think we all carry our stories — the question is what we do with them.”

Finding Peace in Simplicity

These days, Pitt spends much of his time away from the limelight, focusing on art, architecture, and design work at his home in California.

“I used to think happiness was out there somewhere — in success, in love, in recognition,” he said. “Now I know it’s right here, in being present, in forgiving yourself, in starting over.”

Still Growing — On His Own Terms

Brad Pitt doesn’t claim to have it all figured out — and that, he says, is part of the beauty of this chapter of his life.

“I’ve made a lot of mistakes,” he said. “But I’ve learned from them. I’m still learning. And that’s the best part — that I still get to grow.”

For a man once defined by Hollywood myth, Brad Pitt is now defining himself by something far more enduring: growth, honesty, and a quiet kind of peace.
