Don Jr. Calls Out ‘The View’ Co-Host Over MAGA Hat Promise After Trump Secures Hostage Release

Donald Trump Jr. resurfaced a clip of The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin from last year, highlighting a promise she made on air: if former President Donald Trump succeeded in freeing Israeli hostages held by Hamas, she would wear a MAGA hat on the show.

Posting the video to X, Trump Jr. wrote, “Sending this to the top. Let’s go,” following the announcement that the final 20 living Israeli hostages had been released Monday under a peace agreement negotiated by Trump.

In the original segment, Griffin said, “If he does good, if he gets the Israeli hostages out, I promise I will wear a MAGA hat for one day on the show and say, ‘Thank you for doing it.’” Co-host Sunny Hostin jokingly warned her, “Please don’t do that,” and Griffin added that Hostin would likely “knock it right off my head.” She concluded, “You have to be able to cheer for wins when they happen and call out relentlessly the wrongdoing.”

The exchange resurfaced after the hostages’ release, which followed negotiations led by Trump with participation from regional leaders in Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. The captives had been taken during Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which killed roughly 1,200 people.

High-profile figures reacted to the historic outcome. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) praised Trump and his team, describing the day as “wonderful” and noting the “enormous advocacy of the tireless hostage families, President Trump, his administration, and all who helped make this moment happen.” Former President Bill Clinton echoed similar sentiments, stating Trump and his team “deserve great credit” for the peace deal.

The agreement was formally signed in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with Trump joining Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Standing with the world leaders, Trump said, “The prayers of millions have finally been answered,” announcing that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first stage of a peace deal following the hostages’ release. Earlier, addressing the Israeli Knesset, Trump described the moment as “not only the end of a war, but the end of an age of terror and death, and the beginning of an age of faith and hope.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) hailed the development as a “day of profound hope and joy for the entire free world,” noting that “lasting peace is now within reach.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s state media repeated Hamas’s claim that it had “made all efforts” to protect the hostages, despite widespread reports of torture, starvation, and abuse during captivity. The hostages were handed to the Red Cross in three groups before transfer to Israeli authorities. Released photos from the Israel Defense Forces and Government Press Office captured emotional reunions between freed captives and their families.

Among the freed was Evyatar David, an Israeli forced by Hamas to dig his own grave. Though thin and malnourished, he and the other hostages were safely returned to Israel. Twenty-eight bodies of hostages who were murdered remain to be returned under the ceasefire agreement.

Griffin’s promise now stands in the spotlight as the hostages’ safe return fulfills the conditions of her playful yet pointed on-air vow — a reminder of the moment when commentary and real-world events intersected dramatically.
