Former Hollywood star Adrian Grenier is speaking out with “compassion” for farmers who face what he calls unwarranted criticism from self-proclaimed environmentalists. The 49-year-old actor, known for roles in “Entourage” and “The Devil Wears Prada,” recently shared his thoughts on sustainability and the realities of farming during an interview on “The Dan Buettner Podcast.”
Grenier urged critics to “show some respect” and understand the immense challenges farmers face before judging their operational methods. He specifically called out a certain demographic. “Frankly, these woke liberal college kids who come in with all these big ideas trying to tell farmers that they got to do one thing because it’s bad for the environment,” he stated. He challenged these critics to take practical action: “Put your money where your mouth is and go out and try and solve for farming practices instead of telling the farmers who are in the trenches trying to make food that you don’t even want to pay whatever for organic cause it’s too expensive.”
He admitted that, having grown up in New York, his early environmentalist views were based on “abstract ideas of how things should be.” He now understands why farmers might be forced to “turn to chemical fertilizers.” Grenier contrasted his current situation with that of the agricultural community. “I get the luxury of trying to reinvent and figure out regenerative, healthy, organic ways of doing things, but it’s hard,” he explained. “If my crop dies, I’ll still get to eat. Farmers, their margins are razor-thin, and if they lose a crop, their family doesn’t eat.”
Grenier Finds His ‘True Center’ on the Farm
The conversation also turned to Grenier’s decision to leave the Hollywood lifestyle, a move he initially made in 2016. Reflecting on his acting career, he noted that his time on “Entourage” often featured a lack of consequences for bad behavior, which he contrasts with reality. “Real life isn’t like that,” he observed. He admitted that over time, he had “indulged a little too much in that world,” leading him to realize he had “forgotten my true center or my north star.” He felt a need to “reorient myself with spirituality and my purpose on the planet.”
The star realized the path he was on was unfulfilling, prompting deep self-reflection: “What have I given? What have I cultivated?” Speaking to “Today with Hoda & Jenna” in February 2024, he said he felt as if he “was flying high for many years” in Hollywood and New York, but now lives a “much more grounded lifestyle.”
In 2020, Grenier and his wife, Jordan Roemmele, established Kintsugi Ranch outside Austin, Texas. He considers the farm his “ultimate recognition” of how he wants to spend his time on Earth, furthering his long-standing commitment to environmental work. “You sleep better, you’re more grounded, you have a sense of wellbeing,” he told People magazine in September 2023. He credits farm life with being “good for mental health, it’s good for skill building, resilience and all of that.” The lifestyle, he concluded, “allows you to make more informed, wiser choices when it comes to how you live, how you treat others and, in particular, how you treat the environment.”
