Pop superstar Bruno Mars dove headfirst into grunge territory at a private, star-studded event on Thursday night, delivering a powerful rendition of Nirvana’s iconic 1991 hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The performance, captured on video, saw Mars sharing the stage with an unbelievable lineup of rock legends.
Mars was backed by an all-star core band—often referred to as ‘The Dirty Bats’ for the evening—featuring Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, along with producer Andrew Watt. The impromptu supergroup took over the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, for a private show hosted by Eldridge Industries.
The performance captured Mars in a state of “nirvana,” fully immersing himself in the classic rock sound. Actor Orlando Bloom, who was reportedly in attendance, recorded the clip and shared it on his Instagram story, giving fans an unexpected glimpse into the exclusive event.
The night was a spectacular blend of pop, punk, grunge, and classic rock, with Mars’ set also reportedly including covers of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” The Police’s “Roxanne,” and Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana.”
Mars was just one of many A-list guests to join the jam session. The concert also featured Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, Red Hot Chili Peppers vocalist Anthony Kiedis, Brandi Carlile, and Yungblud, all taking turns fronting the legendary backing band for a run of classic rock and original hits. The collective mixing of musical worlds created a truly epic evening, proving that a classic rock anthem can still “entertain us.”
