Scarlett Johansson Says Husband Colin Jost Has ‘Given Up So Much’ for Their Family — “He Keeps Me Laughing When I Want to Cry”

Scarlett Johansson has lived much of her life in the glare of Hollywood — from red carpets to blockbuster sets, interviews, and constant scrutiny. But behind the scenes, the actress says it’s her husband, Saturday Night Live writer and comedian Colin Jost, who keeps her grounded when the spotlight feels overwhelming.

“He’s given up so much for our family,” Johansson shared. “He keeps me laughing when I want to cry. He’s my anchor in the storm.”

Two Worlds, One Home

Johansson, who married Jost in 2020, said their marriage works because it thrives on humor, humility, and quiet support.

“We come from totally different worlds,” she said. “He lives in comedy, I’ve spent my life in film. But somehow, we meet in the middle. He makes the chaos feel human.”

She recalls first meeting Jost on the SNL set, expecting nothing more than clever banter — and instead finding an unexpected calm.

“He was this goofy, brilliant writer who made everyone laugh. But when the cameras stopped, he was incredibly grounded. That’s what drew me in — the stillness behind the laughter.”

Love in the Quiet Sacrifices

Johansson says she has watched Jost make deliberate, unpublicized sacrifices — adjusting his schedule, traveling less, choosing family over opportunity.

“He never makes a big deal out of it,” she said. “He just shows up — for me, for the kids, for our home. That’s love. It’s not loud or dramatic. It’s steady.”

Together, they’ve built a blended family life with Johansson’s daughter Rose, and their son Cosmo — a life she calls “beautifully ordinary.”

Humor as Their Lifeline

Even in difficult moments, Johansson says Jost uses comedy not as a distraction, but as a lifeline.

“There are days when I feel stretched too thin,” she admitted. “He’ll crack a ridiculous joke at exactly the wrong — and right — moment. And suddenly, everything feels lighter.”

Trust Over Spotlight

Despite her global fame, Johansson says she never feels the need to perform at home.

“He’s never tried to compete with my career,” she reflected. “He doesn’t define himself through it. He just loves me — the tired version, the unfiltered version. That kind of trust is rare.”

Happiness, Redefined

For a woman who has played some of cinema’s strongest characters, Johansson says real strength now looks like this:

“Happiness isn’t premieres or applause,” she said with a smile. “It’s Colin making pancakes with the kids on a Sunday morning. It’s us laughing about something stupid after a long day. That’s the real stuff.”

In the middle of Hollywood’s noise, Scarlett Johansson has found something quiet — and she calls it home. Would you like a headline variation or social media pull-quote layout for this piece?
