It has been 34 years since the music world lost an icon. Freddie Mercury passed away at the age of 45 on November 24, 1991, after a battle with AIDS. His legacy, however, continues to inspire millions globally, and his surviving Queen bandmates have assured his memory is kept vibrant.
Among those paying tribute is legendary guitarist Sir Brian May. He recently shared a heartfelt message to the late frontman on his official Instagram account. The 78-year-old rock star posted a striking collage artwork of Freddie Mercury, which dramatically zoomed out as the singer’s solo track, “Just One Life,” played in the background.
Sir Brian May’s caption was a poignant reflection on his friendship and musical partnership with Mercury. He wrote: “The most beautiful memories are the saddest. Remembering the one and only Freddie M. Thank you @nenu_ph. [the artist]. Bri.”
The post, which resonated deeply with fans, also prompted the guitarist to address some negatives within the comments section. It seems some users speculated the artwork was generated using Artificial Intelligence. Sir Brian May was quick to shut down the claims, insisting on the authenticity of the piece.
He firmly added: “I’m going to say this only once, to you people who think you’re so clever. This has nothing to do with AI. It is the work of an artist whom I was pleased to credit, above. And I’m reminded again that, in commenting, if we have only a negative comment to offer, it’s better to shut up. Bri.” Sir Brian’s tribute serves as a beautiful and powerful reminder of the enduring presence of Freddie Mercury, even decades after his untimely passing.
