Fans Erupt as The Night Manager Season 2 Unveils Deadlier Plot Ten Years After BAFTA-Winning Original, Sending Jonathan Pine Into Colombia’s Underworld

A decade after its initial, award-sweeping run, The Night Manager is finally making its long-awaited return, sending Jonathan Pine into the treacherous underworld of Colombia. Based on the 1993 novel by John le Carré, the British crime drama’s first season followed hotel night manager Jonathan Pine, played by Tom Hiddleston, as he was recruited by intelligence officer Angela Burr, portrayed by Olivia Colman, to infiltrate a powerful arms operation. The original series was a colossal success, winning multiple BAFTAs, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globes, including a Best Actor statue for Hiddleston, and becoming one of the most-watched TV shows in the UK in 2016.

Now, the Emmy-winning series is back for a second six-episode run, with a premiere date set for January 1 on the BBC. Both Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman will reprise their iconic roles. Hiddleston recently expressed his excitement to Vanity Fair about the decade-long gap. “I’m honestly excited that it’s taken 10 years,” he said. “The last 10 years in the world have been interesting. Jonathan Pine is 10 years older, a few more scars on the outside, a few more on the inside.”

They will be joined by returning cast members Alistair Petrie, Douglas Hodge, Michael Nardone, and Noah Jupe. Season 2 also welcomes a fresh influx of talent, with new cast additions including Diego Calva of Babylon , Camila Morrone from Daisy Jones & The Six , Indira Varma, Paul Chahidi, and Hayley Squires.

The Deadlier New Mission

The official synopsis released by the BBC details a terrifying new chapter for the central spy. Jonathan Pine, who had sought anonymity by living as “Alex Goodwin,” a low-level MI6 officer in London, finds his quiet life shattered. A chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action, leading him to a violent confrontation with a new, dangerous player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos, played by Diego Calva. Pine’s perilous new journey introduces him to Roxana Bolaños, a businesswoman played by Camila Morrone, who reluctantly aids his mission to infiltrate Teddy’s vast Colombian arms operation. Plunged deep into this deadly plot, Pine finds himself involved with the arms and training of a guerrilla army, a conspiracy designed to destroy an entire nation. As allegiances begin to splinter, Pine must quickly decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he is willing to go to expose the truth before it is too late. The official trailer, released in November 2025, has already offered fans a glimpse of Morrone and Calva’s new characters and a deeper look into Pine’s complex, high-stakes operation in Colombia.
