President Donald Trump reacts to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s surprise announcement on Saturday by celebrating the news and claiming the outspoken Georgia Republican “went BAD” after he repeatedly ignored her calls.
In a morning post on his Truth Social platform, Trump revived his “traitor” label for Greene, stating, “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), has decided to call it ‘quits.'”
The former president went on to criticize her relationship with Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, whom he called “the WORST Republican Congressman in decades, also known as Rand Paul Jr.” Trump asserted that this association “did not help her.”
He then offered a striking personal anecdote to explain their falling out, writing, “For some reason, mainly that I refused to return her never ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD. Still, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country!”
When later asked by a reporter if he would forgive Greene, Trump remained unyielding. “Forgive for what? No. We just — I just disagreed with her philosophy,” he said. “She started backing perhaps the worst Republican congressman in our history, just, you know, a stupid person named Massie. And, I said, ‘go your own way.’ And once I left her, she resigned because she would never have survived a primary. But I think she’s a nice person,” he added.
Greene, once a fervent Trump loyalist, announced late Friday that she will resign her seat in Congress, effective January 5, 2026.This decision followed a highly public falling out between the two that began with Trump publicly pulling his endorsement one week prior.
In her lengthy statement posted to X, Greene cited a growing disillusionment with Washington, blasting what she termed a corrupt “Political Industrial Complex” that uses Americans as “pawns in an endless game of division.” She wrote, “Americans are used by the Political Industrial Complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, in order to elect whichever side can convince Americans to hate the other side more.And the results are always the same — nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman.”
Greene acknowledged the public break with her former political ally was “hurtful” but insisted her convictions remain intact despite Trump’s recent insults, which have included calling her “Wacky” and “a ranting lunatic.” She wrote, “My heart remains filled with joy, my life is filled with happiness, and my true convictions remain unchanged because my self worth is not defined by a man, but instead by God who created everything in existence.”
Concluding her statement, she indicated her intention to leave the political theater behind. “I will be resigning from office with my last day being January 5, 2026,” she wrote. “I’m going back to the people I love.”
