The legendary rock band Queen has marked a major milestone by releasing a special video collage announcing five decades of live performances of their iconic anthem, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ The video is the latest installment in the band’s official YouTube miniseries, Queen The Greatest , and celebrates Freddie Mercury’s musical magnum opus.
The original song, a cornerstone of British popular culture, first appeared on the 1975 album A Night At The Opera , arriving nearly a month after its single release. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ went on to achieve an astonishing nine-week run at the No. 1 spot on the UK chart, solidifying its place in music history.
Remarkably, the track remains the UK’s third best-selling single of all time and continues to captivate global audiences, evidenced by its nearly three billion streams on Spotify. The new video collage pays tribute to the enduring power of the track and the spectacular stage presence of Freddie Mercury.
Sir Brian May, Queen’s guitarist, previously reflected on the song’s longevity in an earlier episode of the series. “The song continues to resonate,” he noted. “We go on stage and play it… and it’s fresh as a daisy. It’s new and exciting, and the reaction you get from people is just amazing.”
May also recall the unforgettable performance at Live Aid in 1985. “The response from the crowd was so deafening,” Brian remembered, “it took your breath away.” The new live video captures the essence of this electrifying connection between the band and their fans across the years.
Fans can look forward to a ‘Bohemian Rhapsody 360 special’ in next week’s episode of Queen The Greatest . For collectors, a limited-edition crystal-clear vinyl reissue of the album A Night At The Opera is currently available for purchase.
