Chadwick Boseman’s enduring legacy was formally cemented on Thursday, November 20, as the late “Black Panther” actor received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony drew an attendance of fans, friends, and family, all gathered to honor the celebrated life of the star.
The induction comes five years after his death on August 29, 2020, at the age of 43. Boseman had maintained a private four-year battle with colon cancer.
Unlike the typically ecstatic celebrations that accompany most Walk of Fame ceremonies, a palpable sorrow hangs over the Los Angeles event. The “42” star could not be there to witness the tribute himself. In his stead, a poignant pair of shoes was placed upon his star, symbolizing his presence as loved ones celebrated on his behalf.
Viola Davis, Boseman’s co-star in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” was among those who paid tribute.
Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, delivered an emotional address. She shared that while the recognition was beautiful, it fell short of having her husband present. “This star, as beautiful as it is on the Walk of Fame, shines a whole lot less brighter than Chadwick is in heaven,” she stated.
“Chad, today we recognize a lifetime of artistry,” Boseman’s wife continued in her moving remarks. “We recognize your skill and your devotion and we cement your legacy as a hero and icon. You lived with honor and you walked in truth. You were as brilliant as you were beautiful and as courageous as you were kind. We love you, we miss you and we thank you.”
She was accompanied during the event by Boseman’s brothers, Derrick Boseman and Kevin Boseman, as the Hollywood community officially enshrined the memory of one of its most acknowledged modern talents.
